Chevening Scholarships empower talented emerging leaders from across the globe to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the UK. If you are passionate about making a real impact on local, national, or global issues, this opportunity is for you.

Benefits

  • A monthly living stipend to cover accommodation and day-to-day expenses. The amount varies depending on whether your course is based inside or outside London and is subject to annual review.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a citizen of a country or territory eligible for Chevening.

  • Commit to returning to your home country for a minimum of two years after completing your scholarship.

  • Have at least 2,800 hours of professional work experience since earning your undergraduate degree, which is roughly equivalent to two years of full-time work (it can be accumulated over multiple roles or periods).

  • Hold an undergraduate degree that meets the entry requirements for a UK master’s program.

  • Apply to three eligible UK university courses and secure an unconditional offer from at least one of them by the references and education documents deadline stated in the application timeline


Who Cannot Apply for a Chevening Scholarship



  1. You are not eligible if you:

  2. Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK government scholarship.

  3. Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or have BN(O) status and are applying from Hong Kong).

  4. Have refugee status in a non-eligible country : If you are a citizen of an eligible country but currently hold refugee status in another eligible country, you may still apply.

  5. Are employed (or have been within the last two years), or are a close relative of someone employed by:



  • The UK Government

  • British Embassies or High Commissions

  • The British Council

  • A sponsoring UK university

  • A Chevening Partner organisation (note: if employed by a partner organisation within the last two years, you cannot receive a partner award from that same organisation).


     Important: Already having a master’s degree does not prevent you from applying for a second one in the UK.

How to Apply

  1. Check if You’re Eligible
    Make sure you meet the Chevening requirements (citizenship, work experience, education, etc.).

  2. Choose Your Courses
    Select up to three master’s degree programs in the UK that fit your career goals.

  3. Gather Your Documents
    Get your academic transcripts, references, passport/ID, and other required documents ready.

  4. Apply Online
    Visit the official Chevening application portal

  5. Complete the application form

  6. Answer the essay questions

  7. Upload your supporting documents

  8. Submit Before the Deadline
    Applications usually close in November each year. Late submissions are not accepted.

  9. Interview Stage
    Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview at the British Embassy/High Commission in their country.

  10. Final Selection
    Successful applicants receive an award letter and prepare to begin studies in the UK the following academic year.
