The Keiran McNamara World Heritage PhD Top-Up Scholarship was established by the McNamara family in honour of Mr. Keiran McNamara. This scholarship supports eligible commencing PhD students at one of the five Western Australian universities, with the aim of advancing research that contributes to the conservation and management of World Heritage areas in Western Australia.

It is offered as a supplementary scholarship, to be held alongside the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) or an equivalent award.

Application Period: Opens 3 September 2025 – Closes 16 October 2025
Applies to: Domestic and International Postgraduate Research students

The scholarship provides a total of $25,000 per annum, comprising:

• Top-up stipend of $10,000 per annum (in addition to the RTP or equivalent award).


• Research allowance of $15,000 per annum for expenses, including research-related travel.

Applicants must:

• Apply for PhD enrolment and primary scholarships at one of the five Western Australian universities.


• Be commencing their PhD in 2026.


• Be eligible to enrol full-time at a Western Australian university (or part-time in exceptional cases with university approval).


• Hold a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours or equivalent qualification.


• Intend to conduct research relating to the identification, management, and conservation of World Heritage areas in Western Australia.
