Are you interested in studying in Australia with full financial support? The University of Melbourne is offering 600 fully funded scholarships for international students for the 2025 academic year. These scholarships are open to applicants pursuing Master’s and PhD degree programs.

The Melbourne Research Scholarship and the Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship are awarded to outstanding domestic and international students pursuing a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.

Stipend and Fee Offset Scholarships



  • Tuition Coverage: Full fee offset for up to 2 years for Master’s by Research students and up to 4 years for Doctoral (PhD) students.

  • Living Allowance: Annual stipend of $38,500 (2025 full-time study rate), available for up to 2 years for Master’s by Research and up to 3.5 years for Doctoral students. The allowance may be adjusted each year for inflation and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.

  • Relocation Grant: Financial support of $2,000 for students relocating from other Australian states or territories (outside Victoria), and $3,000 for students moving from overseas.

  • Health Insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) – Single Membership for international students who need a student visa to study in Australia.


Fee Offset Scholarships



  • Tuition Coverage Only: Full fee offset for up to 2 years for Master’s by Research students and up to 4 years for Doctoral (PhD) students.

Eligibility Criteria

 


To qualify for this scholarship, you must either:



  • Apply for and satisfy the entry requirements of a graduate research program at the University of Melbourne, or

  • Already be enrolled in a graduate research program at the university.


Selection Criteria



  1. All domestic students who are admitted to a Master’s by Research or PhD program will automatically receive a Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset Scholarship.

  2. Graduate Research Scholarships that cover both tuition fees and living allowance are awarded to domestic and international students based on academic excellence.

  3. Applicants are evaluated and ranked according to:



  • Academic results in their most recently completed degree

  • Research capability in their field of study


Other aspects that may strengthen an application include:



  • Having previously completed a degree at the same level as the one applied for

  • Relevant work or professional experience

  • Published research in peer-reviewed journals

  • Specialized medical qualifications

  • Original music compositions
